All Natural Bug Repellent

June 7, 2017 | Leave a Comment

Summer is here and it’s my favorite time of the year!! My 3 kids can spend all day everyday outside and I’m fine with that! As a kid, I did the same and I think kids learn so much about entertaining themselves…and developing a love for nature. I plant myself on our awesome porch, and my kids play for hours. It’s great!! Except one problem…BUGS!!! I’m one of those people that the moment I go outside….the bugs flock to me! It started when I was a kid, we tried everything possible but I always got bit! I did the bracelets, the sprays, the candles…you name it but nothing worked and I got eaten alive. It’s miserable! And nothing is worse than those stinky sprays!! You feel like you need to shower after as they smell so bad, are sticky, and are really bad for you too!!

What to do, what to do, what to do???

I looked online for natural ways to keep bugs away, and the number one too was to use essential oils! In fact doctors say it’s a MUCH better option than the bug sprays with Deet in them!! So I of course got myself an essential oil bug spray….it works amazing!!!! I decided to take It to another level though, and looked into making my own, all natural, keep bugs away candles. And they work great!! Best part is it’s so easy to do, affordable, and you can use them over and over again! And it’s a fun craft your kids can do with you ( just don’t let them handle the oils! My daughter loved putting the lemons and limes in for me!)

Supplies:

All Natural Bug Repellent

  • Mason Jars (Or other type glass jars)
  • Lemons
  • Limes
  • Rosemary
  • Floating Candles
  • Water
  • Essential oils (I use lemon, Lavender, Tea Tree Oil, and Cedarwood)

Directions:
Slice up the lemons and limes. Put a few of each in the jars. Next add in the rosemary. I used one or two sprigs per jar. Next, fill 3/4 of the way to the top. Next add 10 drops of each essential oil.  Gently place your candle in and your ready to use!!! Keep the tops for the jars and you can save it and use it over and over!
