How To Be A Social Media Success

Last week I talked about the do and do not’s of social media, and that brought in a load of questions!!! So today I’m going to elaborate more on how to have success on social media!

First lets talk about your profile. People who are interested in working with you, are going to research you!! When they go to your page, you want them to see someone that is successful, happy, positive, and would be a great mentor. The first thing they see is your profile pictures and cover picture. Keep it professional, clean, and friendly. Ask a photographer for some head shots, or if you can’t afford that, ask a friend to do it! Aim to do it outside if you can as the outdoor lighting is great and you don’t have distraction in the background of your picture.  I personally use a family photo for mine, but you can do one of just you if you prefer! I just think my kids are so adorable that helps people want to work with me 😉 (KIDDING!!) Remember with your pictures of yourself, you want people to chose you!!!! If someone approaches me selling makeup, but their pictures of themselves are all without makeup, I’m going to wonder if they truly love the product. People are going to join your company because of YOU, and their belief in YOU and your success. And if you don’t have success yet, don’t lie, but show people you are working hard to get there!

Next let’s talk about what to do on Facebook. Scrolling through your newsfeed is fine when you have time to kill, but it will NOT build your business! You need to engage with people and meet new people! I suggest going through your friends list and re-connecting with at least 7 people each week. Do NOT message them about your business! Simply try and catch up and get to know them better. If they ask what you are up to, share, but don’t sell!!! If they are interested in your business, they will ask!! Build relationships, people want to work with those they trust!! Join groups. Not to talk about your business, but to engage with people and meet new people! You can find tons of fun groups in your area to join!

11141180_10153078114179576_3521282344485357203_nStop scrolling through Facebook! If you are a busy Mom like me, you have very limited time each day to work and Facebook is a distraction if not used correctly! The first thing I do when I get online is check my messages and notifications and answer those. Then I post in my private groups, check in on business partners and customers, and then see what I need to do to grow my business. I keep a list of what I need to do each day by my computer. For example, three days a week I work on blog articles.  Two days a week I participate in network parties for blogs. Four days a week I work on growing my business. Keeping a list of what needs to be done, helps me work faster and more efficiently.  I save the scrolling through Facebook for when I do my morning cardio, as it is not a beneficial way to grow my business.

Growing your reach is important! Some people chose to use Facebook, others chose to meet people face to face. Either is fine, but to be successful you need to be growing your reach of people every week! Using a facebook business page is a great tool also, but keep in mind many times you have to pay to promote those. Find free groups to join, or pages you can network on. Find local Mom groups in your area! You have tons of options, but you need to work at it each week!!! If you aren’t talking to people, then your business isn’t growing!

11Get your product and company out there, without annoying people!!! Facebook does not show every post to every person, so when you start a new business, it is hard to let everyone know about it! You can contact people directly to let them know and see if they will support you, but remember, don’t spam them!! Sharing about your new business on Facebook is fine, but remember to share why you are excited about it, and don’t be a sales person! Be real, be true, and be YOU! When you first start your business, you do need to post a lot about it. On average, I recommend once a day IFFFFFFFF you are active on social media.

Remember to make the RIGHT type of posts on social media. You don’t want to drive people away so make sure you never over post. The average posts you do should tie in to how many friends you have. If you have less than 400, one post a day. If you have around 1000, 2 posts a day. If you have over 1000, 3 posts etc. Too much posting will make facebook think you are spamming people (notice how if you post 10 times a day you get no like or comments? That is because they stop showing your posts to your friends), and it annoys people so they unfollow you. When that happens they NEVER see anymore of your posts!

You can post your items without ever selling them! Remember sales is hard, but being a SHARESPERSON is easy!! Just share what you love about your product and company. Leave the money and sales out of it! People will trust you for sharing what you love and being honest. And have fun with your posts!!!! If you are bored and hating it, people can tell!! Make sure to also use your own personal pictures. Copying other people’s posts is not a good idea. Using stock photos is not a good idea. The best posts include a personal picture. You also want to save your business posts for the busiest time on social media, which is after 8pm!

One important thing to know about Facebook, the more people who engage with you on your posts, the more people who will see it!!! Tag your friends if you know they won’t mind, or ask them to help by commenting and liking. Each time someone comments, make sure you reply to them too. The more comments and likes you have, the more Facebook thinks your post is important so they will show it to more people!

At the end of the day, remember that being successful is about balance, hard work, fun, and dedication. When I first started in direct sales over 3 years ago, I didn’t make hardly anything my first paycheck!!!! That company had a horrible approach and I quit within 6 months as I was not having fun! This year I joined a new company and I knew that to be successful I had to have balance, hard work, fun and dedication. You have to be willing to work every single day, but you can’t let it consume you!! And never give up, as your dreams are worth chasing!!!

Do And Do NOT Of Social Media

Many people are using Facebook to run their businesses these days, and there is a right and wrong way to do it! I’ll share a few things you want to do….and a few things you want to avoid. Facebook is a great tool, when used correctly!

  1. Professional Profile Picture- Your picture is the first thing people see, you want it to be you, be real, and look as professional as possible. If you can’t afford head shots, get a friend to take some photos of you. Try to do it outside as the lighting is best. Focus on just your face, with no distractions. Its ok to wear a shirt or hat with your company name on it, but you want the picture to be you!
    1. Do NOT make your profile picture the product you promote, an unflattering picture, or quotes. People want to get to know you, and on social media, the first impression is important!
  2. Drama Free Is The Way To Be- Yes we all have problems and issues and drama, but social media is NOT the place to talk about it. Especially if you use that for your business. Many times you are networking and meeting new people, and they don’t want to know about your drama. That’s quick way for them to decide you are not the person to do business with. If you have drama, keep it quiet with close friends, not in public!
  3. Keep Your Page About You- People do not want to see you selling a product 24/7….even if it’s the best product in the world! You need to balance! I recommend 90% of your posts be about you, and only 10% about your business.
  4. Use Your Name- You want people to come to you for help with their needs so it’s important to brand yourself, and not just promote a product. Because of this, do not put your company name in your Profile Name, or use a fake name. It confuses people and makes it hard for them to find you. Be real, be you, and remember you and your product are not the same person.
  5. Keep It Fun- People Need to be engaging with you in order to keep seeing your posts. Share fun activities with your friends, share crafts you are doing, or share motivational quotes. The more people engage with you, the more they will see your posts!
  6. Avoid Selling- Facebook is for keeping in touch with people, not making millions. If you want to share a product you love, that’s great!!! But don’t use it to spam people asking them to buy from you, or posting asking people to buy stuff. The key is to share, not sell.
  7. Get To Know People- If you meet a new friend online, do NOT try to sell them your products. Instead, ask them what they do, what their hobbies are, what they enjoy….get to know them! If you immediately ask them to buy from you, they will most likely un-friend you and that door is slammed shut. But if you get to know them, and later down the road find they aren’t interested, they may refer friends to you! I personally send tons of friends to other business owners! I know my job isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok so I find out their interested, and send them to a job that might be a good fit.
  8. Do not OVER post! Balance how many times you post a day based on how many friends you have. If you have less than 300 friends on social media, only post once a day. If you have around 1,000 you could post about 3 times a day. The reason is, too many posts makes facebook think you are spamming people and they will stop showing their posts to them. Plus, no one wants to see 10 posts from you in one day, even if they really really like you 😉
  9. Don’t share articles, photos, videos etc if you are using your page for you business. Keep it professional. Those funny quotes are cute, but too many of them annoy people and confuse them as to what the purpose is. Make sure people know your page is about you, your family, and your business.
  10. Final Tip- Support Those Who Support You- This is HUGE in home based businesses!!! I remember those who supported me when I first got started, and you will see that those are the people I share the most on this page and on my Facebook Page. They supported me, so I will do everything I can to help them! Those who constantly ask me to buy products or promote their business yet have NEVER done anything to support me….usually do not get my help. I know that’s harsh, but it’s the truth in this business. All it takes is sharing someone’s post about their business, taking a moment to learn more about them, and even refer friends if the products aren’t for you. Showing support can make the difference between someone being successful, and someone feeling alone and giving up. So remember, always always always help those that you can and especially those who have helped you!

Why Do You Blog??

Why do so many people blog??? A few reasons we will talk about. One is it’s a good income, though for most it takes years! Another reason is it’s a great stress reliever! It’s also fun way to share your ideas. And many people can test products for free if they write reviews for them!why blog

The first thing that shocks people is they can get paid for it. Yes you can, but keep in mind for most people this takes 1-4 years time as you have to build up followers. Most companies require 10,000-100,000 followers for a 6 month period before they will put ads on your page.  My blog hit that range within 60 days, but I worked my butt off during that time.

can you get paid to blog

The first thing to do if that is your goal, is NOT to focus on money. Instead you need to be yourself, have a plan on what you would like to talk about, and be consistent with your blogging. Before you publish your blog, go ahead and write out 3-12 articles. Make sure you have engaging pictures to go with each one. Once you have that done, you can publish 2-3 a week your first month and spend time focusing on networking.

Join blog parties each day if you can and share your articles, plus check out other bloggers with great content. This is a great (although time consuming) way to get followers from people you don’t know. Each time you publish an article, make sure you also share it on social media. Pinterest and Facebook and Instagram and Twitter are the best ones to use. Utilize hashtags that describe what you are talking about.

Once you have a good following, you can start doing product reviews. Remember not to “sell out” and keep most of your blog fun! Talk about your week, share funny stories of things your kids did. Share recipes or crafts. Most important, remember to be yourself!! Blogging should be a fun way of talking about life, and if it beings in an income, that is a huge bonus 😉

Stay The Course And Achieve

People tell me all the time how I am “supermom” and I have it all together. Well, that is so not true!!! I struggle just like everyone else, but I have found ways to push through the rough days to achieve my goals and enjoy my day!

unnamed (1)Every Mom understands how mentally and physically exhausting being a parent is. It’s not like a normal job where you can fire your employees for not listening haha. Kids don’t listen on a daily basis and that drains you! I have no solution for how to make kids listen, BUT I so have a solution for not letting it ruin your day!!

Instead of letting that drain me, I have a talk with my kids about the good times they listened during that day and how proud I was of them for those times. We then agree to strive toward those good listening times again and when I notice one, I reward with lots of praise! I remind myself its just part of them being kids!! It doesn’t make me a bad parent, or them bad kids! It’s normal and it’s ok!!!

We also get lots of activity in and find new ways for them to have fun. Kids love new things!!! I alternate some of their toys and puzzles and craft items too so they feel like its “new” and they have more excitement to play with it!!!

unnamed (4)When I have a rough day, my first instinct is to Netflix binge watch when the kids go to bed. That’s my work time so I have to choose, relax or work! And I’m not going to lie, lots of days I go for the Netflix haha. On a day that is looking rough, I start making my list of things that HAVE to get done that day. I also prioritize them by which is the most important and I stick that list by my computer. I don’t open facebook, pinterest, email, or any other distracting tabs that will keep me from my work. Once I cross one thing off my list, I go to another!

Cutting the distractions, having a list, and knowing I get to relax at the end help me stay focus! I also remember my goals and how hard I have worked! Right now my income alone is paying for our new house closing, plus appliances, moving expenses, and new things for the house. That is a good motivator right there!!!

Remember we are all humans and parenting is tough! Working from home is tough! Combine them together and you are an amazing and hardworking individual! Stick to your goals and remember to cut yourself some slack. Netflix, wine, and chocolate are needed by everyone sometimes.
