Monday Musings January 4th

Happy Monday!!!! I love Mondays as they are a new start to a week, and kinda like a fresh slate! If last week wasn’t great, well you can start over today and have an AMAZING day! Plus this Monday is extra special as its the first Monday of a NEW YEAR!!! I’m not going to lie, 2016 is going to be a scary year for me, but my word for the year is “Faith” and I intend to have faith that it will all work out ok. And that I will stay sane haha.


My husband starts back to school this week, which is the main scare for this year!!! I’ve got to find a whole new level of balance as we will basically just see him one day a week. I have to re-work my whole schedule as to when I work, when I clean the house, and doing family activities without him. It will be tough at first and most likely for the next few years, but I have faith its for the best and that I can handle it!!! Now just to get back to my 5am wake ups so I can get things done haha!!!

Monday.………Do you scroll through facebook on Sunday and Monday and see all the posts about people hating going back to work?!?! I saw at least 10!!!! Its crazy how many people hate their jobs!!! If you see that, reach out to them!!! Offer them suggestions and let them know, that is NOT their only option. So many jobs that can be done from home, no one needs to be miserable!!!


This week, I’ll be sharing about how to do medical transcripts from home thanks to information that was sent to me by an online school! I’m excited to research it more and see how this would help Moms wanting to work from home!!

Also, how to start your own blog and WHY you should blog!!! Blogging is one of the best ways to build a following for your business, plus its an amazing way to meet new friends and share thoughts and ideas!!

Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket

Why do so many people work for more than one company?


This is a question I hear all the time, and a great one! The truth is, there is not one specific answer for this though. People do multiple companies for many reasons, and I’ll share a few of them, and my thoughts on it! Because I know you are dying to know If I agree or disagree with this practice.82 percent of women


Reason 1- Larger Market Target

This is the MOST common reason people do multiple companies. It allows them a larger market to sell to and thus more income in their pockets each month. For example, if you sell makeup, you are normally only reaching adult women. Some men will buy makeup for their wives, but most don’t. If you add in a another product, such as vitamins or clothes detergent, you now are increasing your target as you can sell to men, women, and kids. Having something for everyone is important when you are trying to make an income every month. Reason 2- Perishable Products

Some people sell items that don’t perish such as bags or jewelry. These are great, but the truth is most people do not need new earrings every month. If you add in a product like makeup which runs out, you increase your sales each month. If you are passionate about jewelry, don’t quit!!! Just add in something that does run out each month so your customers keep coming back to you!


Reason 3- Boredom

This may sound funny, buy many people get bored easily and if they promote more than one product, then they don’t get bored! I personally found I got bored very fast, once upon a time when I sold just a protein shake. Few people use that item, so my customer base was small and I got bored pushing it. Those are the most common reasons with the top reason being it gives you a larger target market so you make a larger income each month. Did you know the average millionaire has 7 streams of income??? They don’t put all their eggs in one basket.





Now it does take some skill to balance more than one company. Here are my tips for finding balance.

  • Make sure you are well established in your first company, before adding on another. You don’t want to start TWO companies at the same time. It will cause confusion with your customers, plus you will have to learn about two product lines and compensation plans at the same time. That’s too much! Work on one, and then add in the second.
  • Don’t over promote. You need to balance how you share your items so you aren’t driving people crazy with selling things all the time. Schedule out when you are going to talk about each item and remember you want to do 80% of your posts NOT about business. So if you post on facebook 4 times a day, only one of those should be about your business.
  • Don’t team build for two companies. Team building is hard, and your team needs you to be there to help them learn and succeed. If you are planning on building large teams with multiple companies, you can’t devote much time to training your team when you have TWO teams. Your team needs you to be present for them, not juggli11427045_10153006194509576_6681166567386069160_nng them and another team. It also sends the message that you aren’t successful which is why you need two teams. I recommend promoting a product you love for fun and the commission, and then promoting with a team for your second company. Sometimes you can balance having small teams in two companies, but if you plan on going to the top of a company, you need to focus on team building with just one!
  • Have private groups- Having a VIP group that you can share both your products in at the same time is a lot easier on you! Plus you can post multiple times a day in your group about your products. And it allows people who want to follow you, to see what you have on a daily basis!


At the end of the day, remember to pick companies that you will enjoy working for and you will use the products. The best way to make an income is to SHARE why you love the products, why you use them, and how they will change other peoples lives. Share, share, share! The more you share, the more you will earn.

Pyramid Schemes, Scams, Direct Sales And More!

“Are Selling Products A Legit Income??”

I have to say this is one of the most popular questions I get emailed. But the truth is, even I wondered this same thing before getting involved in this business. A few years back, I was approached to join a company, and my instant thought was Pyramid Scheme and scam!! It’s sad that I thought that way, but many people do as unless you are in this business or well educated about it, you just know what you hear. Many of these companies we think are scams, are actually backed by the Better Business Bureau and have been around for many years!!! So today I am going to cover a few of these popular questions, along with how to know if something is legit and the truth about Pyramids.


Is it Legit?!?!
Direct Sales Companies are VERY legit. They are large companies that chose to pay independent contractors to advertise them instead of using TV adds, Billboards, etc. They are actually helping our economy by putting the money in your pockets vs some very large CEO of a TV station. To find out if a company is legit, you can google them or see if they are registered with the Direct Selling Association. You can also read the reviews about the company online, but remember to only take so much away from those. Job’s are like food, each person has a different preference and different experience so expect to see both good and bad reviews.12004772_995077193889412_9133849978607155890_n
How these companies work, is you advertise their products for them and in return they pay you a commission. Each company has a different pay scale, but in my experience the average is between 10-40%. Finding out what they pay is very important before you begin! Direct Sales companies are very smart, they know people are going to share a product they love, and they encourage that sharing by paying you for it. What better advertisement is their than a happy customer?? I would believe my friends love of a product a lot more than I would a celebrity on TV.
The companies usually require a start up fee, and this is what scares most people. They see that fee and instantly think it’s a scam and they are being robbed. But the truth is, MOST jobs have a start up cost such as background check, uniform, training, etc. With direct sales companies, you want to make sure your cost comes with something!!!!! It should include samples for you, catalogs, brochures, products, a website, product discounts, training, etc. The average cost of a start up kit is around $100 and most have ways for you to make that right back by selling the products in your kit. If the cost is very high, with no products for you, think twice before joining and look more into the company!!! Start up costs are also a tax write off!!! It’s a business investment and you get it back at tax time. The IRS knows direct sales companies are a legit way to make an income.


Pyramid Schemes
Pyramid schemes are when one person is on top and makes a lot of money and the people on bottom don’t make hardly anything even though they are doing all the work. These are out there and you want to be careful, but most times they don’t sell any products, more work on just recruiting other people to join. Here are a few signs a company is a Pyramid Scheme and you want to run for the hills.
According to the Direct Selling Association, here is what you should watch for in Pyramid Schemes:
1) Promising lots of money for no work
2) Teaching people to recruit and not sell a product
3) Very large start up costs
4) Not having a product that they sell
5) Having a few people who make a lot of money on top, and a lot of people on the bottom making very little money

Now to some people, the direct sales business mirrors a pyramid, but the honest truth is in MOST jobs you do have some people higher up. For example, in the school system you have a Principal on top, then teachers, then par pros, then students. In most direct sales companies, you have someone who has been in the company for awhile on top, then your sponsor, then yourself. The people on the top do usually get paid off your income, but to do so they have to keep themselves active AND they have to help their team members. They get paid for having a team and teaching other people to be successful, just like managers do. Just because some people make more on your team in direct sales, does not mean it’s a Pyramid.

As you can see, direct sales are a great and very real way for people to earn an income. In fact, direct sales companies have been around since the 1920’s! They do get a bad reputation though because of the way some people teach their teams to market. If you do it the right way, you can be very successful, make a great income, and have fun all at the same time!!! My #1 tip to be successful is find a product you love and use, and share it, never sell!!!

Sharing Pays

“I don’t want to sell a product”

Me either!!! Selling stuff is tough and not many people are big fans of sales people. So that is why I never sell stuff. I have a different job, I SHARE with people my love for a product. That’s right, I get paid to SHARE!476768c59e61b6691dee58482ff33c01

When I go to a new restaurant, I tell all my friends how good it was!! That’s great for the restaurant as I paid for my meal, and just advertised for them with nothing in return for myself.

When I buy new shoes, I tell people how much I love my shoes, where they can get them, and what a great product it is. This is great for the show store as I just paid full price for my shows, plus advertised for them and helped them get more business.

When I have a fabulous experience with an accountant, I recommend them to my friends and family. I paid full price for their service and now Im sending them more business because I thought they did a great job.

This is great for these businesses!!!! But what if I could get paid for sharing my love for these companies. And what if I could get a discount for getting them more business???

That’s what I do!!! I find a product I love, believe in, and will use daily and get paid to share it. I don’t sell. I don’t go door to door. I don’t bug my friends. I don’t beg people to buy.

For example, one product I use and LOVE is Jamberry Nail Wraps. I found them a few years ago and bought them because as a busy Mom, I didn’t have time to go to the nail salon. Plus the price was $15 for FOUR applications. You can’t beat that!!! So I used them, posted a few pictures, and made sales! Once I realized what a fun business it was, I started to expand. Here are a few things I’ve done to be successful in SHARING not SELLING

I began carrying sample packs with me that included directions and my business cards. These are popular as my nails are always done and every place I go, they advertise for me! If someone compliments them, I offer them a sample! No one says NO!

I offer my samples online by asking people to do a 7 Day Challenge. They get a free sample and use it on one nail, while putting polish on the others. They post the picture on social media on Day 1 and Day 7 to show the wraps vs the polish. This shows my product to tons more people and shows it WORKS


  • I make my own instruction videos and post those. People relate better when they see someone they know.
  • I do online parties which allows my friends to earn FREE products and for me to reach a wider range of people. I usually book a few parties from each party I host.
  • I pass out catalogs In local businesses
  • I do events
  • I do home parties



I use the product!!! This is the biggest!!! When I go to the park with my kids, when I go to the grocery store, when I go to the doctor….everywhere I go people see my nails. My 3 year old uses them too!!!  We both are walking advertisements for a product we love!! I use them, I share them, and I get paid for doing that!!! Plus I earn free products each month and get paid for sharing them. Its an amazing opportunity, a great and FUN job and you can find pretty much any product out there to get started doing this with! Managing Your Time When Working From Home

I always get asked how I manage to work from home with 3 kids with me all day. The truth is, it takes a lot of flexibility and to do lists!!! I get up before the kids, am up after them, plus answer emails/do work during their nap/quiet times. One way Im able to do this is my having a few different to-do lists. I know that sounds crazy, but its true haha.
I have one list for tasks I need to do each day, one for the monthly goals, and one for random things I wish to accomplish when I have time. For my daily list of things that HAVE to get done that day in related to work, I prioritize them in this order:

2) Paying Clients
3) Potential Clients
4) Business Building
5) Everything else
I break it up this way because the time I spend away from my kids is for the sole purpose of working and helping with their college funds and being debt free. So I always try and do the money making tasks first, and then everything else comes last and sometimes those other items don’t get accomplished that day, but its ok!

I usually have about 3 hours (if Im lucky) broken up throughout the day to do work, so I make sure to always get to my clients first as they pay for me to help them. I do put my close friends first as those relationships are very important to me!!! I don’t open browsers with facebook, pinterest, etc as those are just distractions. I make my list each morning of things that HAVE to be taken care of that day. The list is important as it helps me stay on track and keeps me from forgetting important things. Plus I prioritize it with numbers as what needs to be done first, second, third, etc.

Another thing that helps me is I have certain days each week I work on the same tasks. For example, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday are the days I post blogs. The 5th and 20th of the months are the days I send out newsletters for my clients and page followers. Doing the same tasks each week/month helps me not to forget them. Plus when I plan my week out, I know those are going to be my busy days.

Different things work for each person, but for me, staying organized and having lots of lists is what helps me the most! Its taken time to find a system, and some days I get behind and other days I have evenings to just read and relax! Part of being a work from home mom is learning to go with the flow, just do your best, and remember your goals!
