How Do You Find A Work From Home Job?

I’ve been a work from home Mom for almost 5 years now! The time has really flown, but one thing that I have been blessed with is never missing a moment with my kids! I’ve seen them do all their “first’s”, I’ve been present for every school party, every after school activity, all their play dates, and every day I get to spend it with them!! Before having kids, I never knew how important that would be to me. I loved working and staying busy and thought I would be fine putting my kids in daycare. Then my first child was born and I knew I didn’t want someone else watching him, I wanted to do it all!! I set out looking just to make a few extra hundred bucks a month. Enough to help pay off my college loans, and eventually get a new car. I also wanted to start college funds for my kids and one day take a family vacation. But finding a work from home job was hard. That’s in fact one reason I started this blog, and the page on facebook, to show women all the different jobs you can do. I get the daily email of how do you find a work from home job? SO today I’ll share a few of my tips for finding a job!

How Do You Find A Work From Home Job

How To Find A Work From Home Job

First thing to figure out is what type of hours you can work, and to be realistic. I knew with young kids at home, I could not work set hours. Maybe during nap time and bed time, but that’s only about 2-3 hours a day. That cut out my option of doing a customer service job from home or via the internet. Those require set hours each day, a quiet space, and no interruptions. That was a bummer for me as I liked the idea of a set income each month, as that was what had been normal for me before having kids. Most Mom’s though are in the same boat and can not do set hours. That’s ok!

Second thing to figure out is how much income you need to bring in. Are you looking for $500 a month extra, or $2000. Knowing what you need ahead of time will also let you know how much you are going to need to work. A job working one hour a day usually will not bring in $2000 a month.

Third thing, and this is something I stress all the time to people who email me, be realistic! Work from home jobs usually require people who are self motivated, passionate, and have a non excuse attitude. You have to be your own boss, and while that sounds amazing, for some it is not a good fit. My background is in personal training, and that is one reason I’m able to be successful working from home. I don’t require someone telling me to work out each day, I am able to motivate myself. That is the same with working from home. You have to motivate yourself to show up to work, do it daily, and do a good job. You also need to be realistic about the time you put in and the income you earn. Yes many women who work from home, have the potential to earn a six figure income, BUT it does not happen over night and it does not happen by posting once on facebook everyday. It takes some serious work over a long period of time. The average to build an income from a restaurant is 3-5 years….the same for a home based business. Another thing to think of is the type of jobs you can do from home….there are a few options but not many. Employers can pay people with a Masters Degree minimum wage, so they aren’t going to pay you big bucks, and then let you work from home. Many home based companies where people work set hours actually have a high turn over rate. That costs the company money when they have to keep advertising, training, and hiring people.  Because of this, work from home jobs usually pay less. So if you truly want to work from home, be open and willing!

How Do You Find A Work From Home Job?

The most common work from home jobs are direct sales. Now, I know what you are thinking, “Ugh I can’t stand all the sales posts in my newsfeed!” Mine is the same way, but that is NOT how direct sales are supposed to be run. Don’t judge them all just by a few bad apples. There are tons of amazing companies, with amazing products, and amazing compensation plans. Yes the social media spamming is annoying, but the good news is, it should be going away soon! More and more companies are getting in trouble for that as the purpose of social media is to share, not sell. I’ve heard of 5 companies lately that will be banned from using social media soon. How direct sales is supposed to work, is sharing a product you love, and showing others how they can get it too! Most direct sales products are things people already have in their homes….makeup, candles, cleaning products, snacks, coffee, fitness programs, bags, clothes etc. All that we buy! The purpose of direct sales is to shop from a person you personally know then a CEO who could care less about your business. Think of it like this, if your best friend became a hair stylist, you would use them! You wouldn’t chose a stranger who you had no clue if they would do a good job, over your friend who you knew was wonderful at their job. The same goes for direct sales! I have a friend who does amazing with her makeup, I trust her over a sales lady at the mall who I have no clue if she even uses that makeup! Its just switching who you shop from. And of course, if you chose this option, do NOT spam your friends! No mass messages, no befriending people and asking them to buy from you, no posting 5 times a day about your products. You have to do it with class to be successful!!

The second most common work from home job is a virtual customer service position. These are great for Mom’s as it’s a set income, and you can do it from your home! It’s also set hours so this one is good for Mom’s who have kids in school. You can do it part time, or full time. With these jobs, you do usually get paid minimum wage, but for those just looking for a little extra each month and don’t mind being on the phone, this is a good option! I like to look on indeed.com as that’s a good place to find some. We also list quite a few on our page. Now, they aren’t always hiring, but you can send in a resume for them to keep on file. Here are some that hire pretty often: Customer Service Jobs

You can also find jobs that pay you based on the tasks you do, like doing surveys, data entry, secret shopping, even being an online jury person! There are tons of random ways to make an little extra money from home. Here is a list of some people do, and enjoy: Jobs From Home

How Do You Find A Work From Home Job?

Another great way to finds jobs from home is to ask your friends and family! A lot of time, word of mouth is the perfect way to find something, and with someone you already have a connection with. I get a lot of referrals from people I know, as they know I work from home, and they are happy to send people they know my way! That way they aren’t sending their friend to a stranger, but to someone they know makes a good, and legit, income from home. You can also google, but this is not my favorite way to find a job. The reason is there are so many scams out there, and you can get just about anything put up no google even if it is no where close to being real. Also watch for things that seem too good to be true. Last year a scam was going around about email processing. This year there is one about posting on social media and getting paid for each posts. Remember you have to actually WORK in order to get paid.

A few other tips, don’t be afraid of a start up cost! All jobs have some type of costs, but they must be reasonable! I’m a personal trainer and every two years I pay a fee to renew my certification. I also pay to take classes for continuing education credits and I pay to renew my CPR certification. It’s a legit job, but I pay hundred’s to keep my certification! With any job that requires a start up cost, make sure you are getting something! The average I have found is less than $100, which is reasonable for getting started supplies and training’s. Anything over that…be cautious. Also, just because you love a product, does NOT mean it would make a good job. I see so many people fall in this trap! I love ice cream, but I would not enjoy driving an ice cream truck! You need to make sure the company has a good reputation, is in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission, is Debt Free, and has mostly customers, not just people doing the business side. Don’t be afraid to ask for proof of what people earn! I always suggest asking what their “average” paycheck is.

There are tons of different ways to work from home, you just have to look and find something that is a good fit for you! Once you find one you love, stick with it! Don’t company jump (I could write a whole post on how bad this is), don’t try to do multiple companies (again, I could write a whole post on how bad this is, plus not allowed by MOST direct sales companies), and don’t spam on social media. Build your business the right way, and you could one day be one of those Mom’s making a six figure income from home! Above all, find what works for YOU! I personally tried a few multi level marketing companies and found what I liked, not other people did haha. It took me making mistakes, trying over and over, researching many different companies, and finally quitting the multi level marketing world to find a job I loved!! Now I market for a grocery store and it’s the perfect fit for ME. Don’t be afraid to take your time in picking a job. When you find one you love, it opens the doors to a lifetime of freedom and flexibility!

Pyramid Schemes, Scams, Direct Sales And More!

“Are Selling Products A Legit Income??”

I have to say this is one of the most popular questions I get emailed. But the truth is, even I wondered this same thing before getting involved in this business. A few years back, I was approached to join a company, and my instant thought was Pyramid Scheme and scam!! It’s sad that I thought that way, but many people do as unless you are in this business or well educated about it, you just know what you hear. Many of these companies we think are scams, are actually backed by the Better Business Bureau and have been around for many years!!! So today I am going to cover a few of these popular questions, along with how to know if something is legit and the truth about Pyramids.

bbb-rating-a-logo

Is it Legit?!?!
Direct Sales Companies are VERY legit. They are large companies that chose to pay independent contractors to advertise them instead of using TV adds, Billboards, etc. They are actually helping our economy by putting the money in your pockets vs some very large CEO of a TV station. To find out if a company is legit, you can google them or see if they are registered with the Direct Selling Association. You can also read the reviews about the company online, but remember to only take so much away from those. Job’s are like food, each person has a different preference and different experience so expect to see both good and bad reviews.12004772_995077193889412_9133849978607155890_n
How these companies work, is you advertise their products for them and in return they pay you a commission. Each company has a different pay scale, but in my experience the average is between 10-40%. Finding out what they pay is very important before you begin! Direct Sales companies are very smart, they know people are going to share a product they love, and they encourage that sharing by paying you for it. What better advertisement is their than a happy customer?? I would believe my friends love of a product a lot more than I would a celebrity on TV.

The companies usually require a start up fee, and this is what scares most people. They see that fee and instantly think it’s a scam and they are being robbed. But the truth is, MOST jobs have a start up cost such as background check, uniform, training, etc. With direct sales companies, you want to make sure your cost comes with something!!!!! It should include samples for you, catalogs, brochures, products, a website, product discounts, training, etc. The average cost of a start up kit is around $100 and most have ways for you to make that right back by selling the products in your kit. If the cost is very high, with no products for you, think twice before joining and look more into the company!!! Start up costs are also a tax write off!!! It’s a business investment and you get it back at tax time. The IRS knows direct sales companies are a legit way to make an income.

Pyramid Schemes
Pyramid schemes are when one person is on top and makes a lot of money and the people on bottom don’t make hardly anything even though they are doing all the work. These are out there and you want to be careful, but most times they don’t sell any products, more work on just recruiting other people to join. Here are a few signs a company is a Pyramid Scheme and you want to run for the hills.
According to the Direct Selling Association, here is what you should watch for in Pyramid Schemes:
1) Promising lots of money for no work
2) Teaching people to recruit and not sell a product
3) Very large start up costs
4) Not having a product that they sell
5) Having a few people who make a lot of money on top, and a lot of people on the bottom making very little money

Pyramid VS. Direct Sales10573_348288578631716_299887124_n
Now to some people, the direct sales business mirrors a pyramid, but the honest truth is in MOST jobs you do have some people higher up. For example, in the school system you have a Principal on top, then teachers, then par pros, then students. In most direct sales companies, you have someone who has been in the company for awhile on top, then your sponsor, then yourself. The people on the top do usually get paid off your income, but to do so they have to keep themselves active AND they have to help their team members. They get paid for having a team and teaching other people to be successful, just like managers do. Just because some people make more on your team in direct sales, does not mean it’s a Pyramid.

As you can see, direct sales are a great and very real way for people to earn an income. In fact, direct sales companies have been around since the 1920’s! They do get a bad reputation though because of the way some people teach their teams to market. If you do it the right way, you can be very successful, make a great income, and have fun all at the same time!!! My #1 tip to be successful is find a product you love and use, and share it, never sell!!!

Graham Cookies

As a parent, it is always a struggle between finding foods my kids will eat, and my desire to have them eat healthy foods. Lately as I have noticed that effects sugar have on my 4 year old, I’ve been working hard to find healthy foods that I can make. And that he will still enjoy haha. One recipe I recently found that everyone loved, is home made graham crackers! These are very easy to do and delicious!

INGREDIENTS:graham cookies

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour or flour of choice
  • 1½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup butter, cold
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a blender combine the ingredients.
  3. Next put in the chilled butter.
  4. Scoop the mixture onto a piece of wax paper, with another sheet onto and roll out with a rolling pin or cup
  5. Roll dough out and use cookie cutters to make shapes or a cup just for circles.
  6. Place cookies on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

To Freeze, simply cut the cookies into shapes and then place them onto a baking sheet and place in the freezer for 30 minutes. Then you can place them in a plastic bag and you can freeze them for up to 3 months. When you are ready to bake them, just cook them with an additional 1-2 minutes of bake time added on and keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.

Save $400 Off Your Grocery Bills

saving moneyWhen extra money is needed, my first suggestion is to always look at your budget and see where you can make cuts. My family was living paycheck to paycheck and we had a strong desire to pay off all our debt, but with no extra money that was hard to do. A detailed look into my budget showed me my family of 5 was spending over $1000 a month on food. Eating out, snacks, extras, desserts….all those goodies were adding up, and adding up very fast. So I decided to make some cuts. Ok, BIG cuts to be honest, and get our grocery bill down to $400-$500 a month.

Is it doable?? YES! I have been sticking to this new plan for over 8 months now and have saved tons of money, and in fact I wrote the whole plan out to help others do the same!! ((you can read more about that at the end plus how to get it for 50% off!)) The hardest part for me is I am a healthy eater, so I needed foods that were cheap, but also healthy for my family. That took some researching, trial and error, and finding bargains. But it worked and we are now able to put at least $400 a month into our savings!

save 400 on food

Here are a few of my top tips for eating on a budget, and scroll down to the bottom for a list of cheap, easy recipes!

TIPS:

*Plan out your meals for the week. This includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks! If you know what you are going to eat, you will be less likely to spend money eating out

*Make your own snacks. I make all my kids snacks except pretzels. I do homemade cheese crackers, graham crackers, yogurt, muffins, bread….pretty much everything can be made from home for cheaper and a LOT healthier

*PLAN PLAN PLAN: I promise this is the number one tip for staying on track

*Make two nights a week a “veggie night”. Meat is pricey and you can get just as much protein from veggies, but for cheaper.

*Make a grocery list and stick with it! If its not on the list, and you don’t need it, then don’t buy it!

*Go with frozen or canned fruits and veggies. Cheaper!!

*Buy from stores like Aldis, Save A Lot, Costco, or Sams. Make sure to compare prices though as items aren’t always cheaper.

*Buy discount items in bulk and freeze! When I see meat or cheese on sale, I buy a lot and stick it in the freezer.

*PLAN! Keep snacks in your bag so you aren’t tempted to go through a drive thru

*Coupon! But make sure you have your meals planned out before looking for coupons. Otherwise you end up spending more by buying things you didn’t need that were on sale.

CHEAP MEAL IDEAS:1947685_10152074914309576_1158232217_n

*Grilled Cheese

*Veggie Quesadilla

*Soups (chicken and rice, vegetable beef, broccoli and cheese, etc)

*Veggie Spaghetti Sauce

*Chili

*Rice and Beans

*Chicken or Tuna Salad Wraps

*Tacos

*Casseroles (chicken, broccoli, rice and cheese is my favorite!)

Becoming A Work From Home Mom

10402444_10152513761944576_8837897643593524145_nWorking from home is a very popular topic! Especially for busy parents who want to treasure every single moment they can with their kids. In this day and age though, more and more parents are finding they need to return to work to be able to support their kids, even though they would give anything to stay home with them. I was the same way!! I went to college full time while raising two young kids, and once I graduated the bills were piling up. But if I went back into the work force, I would never see my 3 year old and 2 year old. Plus the cost of childcare in my areas was super expensive so It wouldn’t be helping us too much. Thus began my exploration into how I could do both, be with my kids and help my husband with the bills. It took time, research,  trial and error, lots of hours of work, getting outside of my comfort zone, and being willing to work my butt off. But now, 2 years later I make a full time income spending my day with my 3 kids! Its an amazing opportunity and something anyone and everyone can do, but you have to be willing to put in the work.
