Most people think that if you exercise, you are automatically trying to lose weight. They think it’s all about the way you want to look, or the number on the scale….but for many of us, exercise holds a much deeper meaning. Sure having a healthy weight is important for your overall health. Yet sometimes exercise holds a different purposes.!

For me, exercise is about strength. It’s about choice. It’s about control. It’s about a fight I won’t give up on. It’s about me being selfish, and taking care of me!!!


Ten years ago, exercise to me meant looking good in my clothes and a number on a scale. I didn’t know any other importance, nor did I care. After my first child was born….things changed! I wanted to be healthy for him, and no longer just for me. I wanted to teach him the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Fast forward a few years and I’m now the proud mom of 3, and again why I exercise has changed. Now it’s not about the number on the scale, but fighting back. A few months ago I began having a ton of health problems and was eventually diagnosed with an autoimmune disease along with a few other health disorders. Exercise became my way to cope. To still feel strong, to not feel stressed and overwhelmed. To have control over how I feel….even if for a few minutes!

To some, exercise is about weight loss, but to others like me, it’s about fighting for our health. Exercise releases endorphin’s which makes you happy. Exercise can help you feel less depressed. Exercise can help you build a stronger body. Exercise can help boost your immune system. Exercise has so many great benefits and the number on the scale is not what truly matters at the end of the day, but your overall health and how you feel.
