Starting A Business

work from homeMany people are scared to work from home because they worry about how to get started, how to be successful, how not to be a failure, and how to know if a start-up cost is normal or a scam. Starting your own business is scary, but it is also empowering as it allows you to take your future into our own hands!!! It’s a very brave act that many people never have the courage to go after! But how do you get started and how do you make sure you are successful? I’ll share some tips as I know quite a lot about this subject!

pizap.com14295431785461The number one tip for being successful working from home is find a product you LOVE! Don’t look at the money right away, but instead search high and low until you find something you love, believe in, and would 100% use yourself and encourage your loved ones to use also. Work from home jobs can be tough as you need to set your own hours, push yourself, and get out of your comfort zone. But if you are passionate about your product/company than it shows and it makes your work fun!

You never ever ever want to be a sales person, that is just not fun! The tip to being successful and what I teach my team is to SHARE! Share why you love a product, why you buy it, the benefits of it, etc. Sharing is the way to make money, not selling. Keep that I mind when you pick something. Ask yourself, can I use this everyday and share it with others everywhere I go???? ((if your product advertises itself, HUGE bonus for you as it makes your work easier))

Once you find a product you love, check into the company and what it takes to work for them. Most require a small 62c12fbc492dc0c1be227f2645128c69start up fee which should give you a website and tools to get started such as products, catalogs, business cards, samples etc. If it requires a fee with NOTHING in return for you, research more into the company. Make sure to also look into what it takes to stay active with the company. Some require you to buy a certain amount from them each month in order to get paid. So they may require you to buy $200 worth of products but you only sell $50 worth and in the case you would be losing money. Always look into the requirements! Other companies require a website fee, some won’t pay you until you sell a certain amount, and others only pay you once you earn a certain amount of money. These are all things you want to know BEFORE signing up! Never be afraid to ask questions especially when it comes to your business.

Research the business and products. You are going to find good and bad re10943030_1022567594424071_1797698394091688528_nviews on everything out there, but don’t let that discourage you. If all you find is bad reviews, then take that into account. Remember though that some people just like to trash companies so weight what you find, both the good and bad. If you are selling a product people consume, research, research, research!!! This is VERY important as some products do have ingredients that can hurt people and you need to know what’s truly in those products and the side effects of consuming them. ((example: artificial sweeteners such as Splenda and sucralose are now showing long term effect and are in MANY consumable diet products…but don’t take my word for it, jut google it and research yourself))

11037143_933118456751953_6989970111978092783_nKnow your market and if the product you are selling can reach your friends and family. If you have a lot of friends interested in health and fitness, then joining a company like that will allow you to have a product they would be interested in. If you are interested in makeup, but most your friends prefer fitness, keep that in mind as you may have to work harder to make sales. Also look at the price of products. Is it something many people can afford? And is it something they will use often? Jewelry/bakeware/clothes are great, but many people don’t buy those items every single month which means you have to go out searching for new clients.

11008506_10153190080411760_5024804209952106402_nAnother great point when starting a business is to find a supportive and knowledgeable business partner! In most of these companies, you can join someone’s team which means they are there to answer your questions, train you, and help you to be successful. To me, this is one of the most important things as it makes things easier for you when you have someone cheering you on. Not to mention, having someone to go to with questions on how to be successful, how to time manage, and how to get your business rocking. Starting a new business can be scary, but having someone to help and encourage you can make a world of difference!! Trust me, after years in this business I know this to be true!!!

489a48abdc23f354f6af9fac81e21d9ennThese are just a few things to consider when starting your own business, but remember you should never be afraid to ask questions! Ask other people who have been in that company, or who have left the company. Find out what they liked/disliked about it. Also keep in mind that to work from home, you need to be your own boss which means you need to push yourself. Sure its tough at first, but when you consider the benefits, its totally worth it! I work when I want, as much as I want, and from where I want. I can work at the park, by the pool, or in my office. I’m the boss so I set my own rules!

Anyone can be successful working from home, you just need to be dedicated, find a product you love, do your research and never let excuses hold you back!

A Day In The Life Of A Work From Home Mom

One of the most common things I hear from people is asking how I balance everything. The truth is, some days I do a horrible job at it!!! But on those days, I look at what I can do better and consider it a learning experience. Part of parenting is just going with the flow so sometimes I get a lot accomplished…others days NOTHING! But I’ve learned balanced, and to work smarter, not harder. Here is a normal day for me!
11209642_975811129119020_4220985360042293979_n

6am- QUICK shower as my oldest 2 wake up not long after 6.

7am- Breakfast and coffee and the baby wakes up.

11257169_978800182153448_2016610009117767100_n8am- Park time and walk. We have 4 parks withing 15 minutes and all have awesome trails so we go every morning. I get a walk in first and then we play!

5 Computer Based Jobs

Many people who are looking for jobs from home are most often Mom’s with little kids. They need a computer based job, but the problem they encounter is many of those jobs require phone time. I don’t know about you, but my kids do not understand quiet time when I’m on the phone. So what is a Mom to do???

computer based jobs

I did some research, and found an alternative to customer service jobs! Search engine evaluators!!! Ok, know I’m sure many of you are wondering what that is as its not something you hear of often. The exact job description does vary from company to company, but most the time what it involves is people evaluate search engine to see if the terms used are bringing up the right results. For example, if I’m searching for homemade baby food recipes and instead I’m directed to information on the Paleo diet, then the search engine terms are not right for those companies. As an evaluator, you make sure the terms are matching up to the relevant sites.

These companies all require that you pass an exam to get hired and that you own a computer with good internet access. The amount of hours you need to work varies for each company, but it looks like average is between 10-20hrs. I did notice that a few require you to keep track of your own hours and send it in, so for those with little kids, it might be good to do your work at night. I found five companies that hire for these positions and have listed a few details on each below! Good luck and let me know your experience if you get hired!!

Finding Balance

11150407_10152881528944576_2738157974536688199_nWhen people see that I work from home, they often think I have it all together and am “Supermom”. Well, sorry to burst some bubbles, but that is totally false!!! I’m like every single person out there, struggling to accomplish it all and some days forgetting to brush my teeth!! Most days I don’t wear an ounce of makeup (except mascara!!), am in gym clothes, and run around all day long. I have days where I feel super overwhelmed and think I have way too much on my plate. And its moments like that I have to take a step back and remember what is most important.

I have three healthy, beautiful, smart children!!! I get to spend all day, every day, with them!!! Working from home has helped my family tremendously, I’ve paid off my school loans and my SUV (HUGE happy dance from that this week)! I have so much to be thankful for!!! So the laundry might only get done once a week, the grass needed to be cut two weeks ago, and my wardrobe only includes gym clothes. But who cares!!! I’m always been very OCD, but slowly and surely, I’m learning to go with the flow a bit more.

11026588_10152886604509576_8022368932152025326_nBalance is still something I struggle with. My husband works a weird shift so really only has one full day off right now. The funny thing is, that doesn’t bother me. The kids and I are always on the go as we FINALLY live in an area where we have stuff to do! I can run errands, take them to the park, go for hikes with my aunt, we have fun stuff to do everyday!!! I don’t think we have been bored once since we moved to GA. It’s a freeing feeling to have options and not be stuck in the house all day!!

The only negative has been my work. I’ve been so busy with the kids, and my husband’s schedule is different, the time to “work” I had each day has changed. At first I got stressed. I have worked hard to build my business and to make an income from home. But then I remembered why I was working, to help my family!!! We have paid off so much debt, and now my income goes directly towards my kids college funds!!!! That’s an amazing feeling in itself to accomplish that while being home with my kids each day. For many people, my family included, money can be stressful and to remove that issue has been a huge weight off my husband and I’s shoulders.

I’m sticking more to a schedule to help with the work time I have. I get up early and that’s my exercise time. I also use that time to make my “to-do” list for the day. On that list I make sure to include the most important items, and the ones that can be done that day, or another day. That’s a huge help with keeping me on track and making sure I accomplish what HAS to be done each day.

The truth is, most people do NOT have it all figured out. We all struggle with getting things done and prioritizing. For me, the number one priority is my kids. I want them to be able to do after school activities, take fun family vacations, and go to college. So on the days I feel stressed, I remember my goals are for them and that reminds me to take a step back, figure out a new way to achieve balance, and when all else fails, go swing at the park. Because sunshine and the laugher of my kids reminds me of the important things in life!!

We All Scream For Ice Cream

As summer time approaches, many of us like to indulge in our favorite warm weather treat, Ice Cream!!! But regular ice cream can be high in fat and calories and put a stop to your weight loss goals. Instead, reach for a healthier yet still just as delicious, treat!!

Your best bet is going to be frozen yogurt, or a home made smoothie with fruit. Those are usually the lowest in calories and fat and they use real sugar, not substitutes or additives. In the calorie department, nonfat frozen yogurt is the best choice by far. Usually it ranges around 100 calories per servings with zero grams of fat. What makes it even better is it often has good for you probiotics in it which gives you live cultures to promote good gut health. For added protein, look for frozen yogurt that is made with greek yogurt.

Smoothies are a great choice as they are packed full of vitamins from the fruit. Throwing in some greek yogurt also gives you probitotics and extra protein. To up the protein, add a scopp of protein powder ( I like Try About Time Vanilla, use code TDF for a 25% off discount).

Here is my favorite smoothie recipe:

1/2 Cup Low Sugar Apple Juice

1 Cup Mixed Fruit (strawberries, mango, peaches, and bananas)

1 Cup Vanilla Greek Yogurt

1 Scoop Try About Time Vanilla Protein Powder

8-10 Ice Cubes (If your fruit is frozen, skip the ice)

Blend and Enjoy!!!

Here are some other good choices.

So Delicious Dairy Free Coconut Ice Cream: Comes in many flavors ranging from vanilla to chocolate to ore. They are 100 calories per serving, 7 grams of fat, and 1 gram of protein.
