Many people are scared to work from home because they worry about how to get started, how to be successful, how not to be a failure, and how to know if a start-up cost is normal or a scam. Starting your own business is scary, but it is also empowering as it allows you to take your future into our own hands!!! It’s a very brave act that many people never have the courage to go after! But how do you get started and how do you make sure you are successful? I’ll share some tips as I know quite a lot about this subject!
The number one tip for being successful working from home is find a product you LOVE! Don’t look at the money right away, but instead search high and low until you find something you love, believe in, and would 100% use yourself and encourage your loved ones to use also. Work from home jobs can be tough as you need to set your own hours, push yourself, and get out of your comfort zone. But if you are passionate about your product/company than it shows and it makes your work fun!
You never ever ever want to be a sales person, that is just not fun! The tip to being successful and what I teach my team is to SHARE! Share why you love a product, why you buy it, the benefits of it, etc. Sharing is the way to make money, not selling. Keep that I mind when you pick something. Ask yourself, can I use this everyday and share it with others everywhere I go???? ((if your product advertises itself, HUGE bonus for you as it makes your work easier))
Once you find a product you love, check into the company and what it takes to work for them. Most require a small start up fee which should give you a website and tools to get started such as products, catalogs, business cards, samples etc. If it requires a fee with NOTHING in return for you, research more into the company. Make sure to also look into what it takes to stay active with the company. Some require you to buy a certain amount from them each month in order to get paid. So they may require you to buy $200 worth of products but you only sell $50 worth and in the case you would be losing money. Always look into the requirements! Other companies require a website fee, some won’t pay you until you sell a certain amount, and others only pay you once you earn a certain amount of money. These are all things you want to know BEFORE signing up! Never be afraid to ask questions especially when it comes to your business.
Research the business and products. You are going to find good and bad reviews on everything out there, but don’t let that discourage you. If all you find is bad reviews, then take that into account. Remember though that some people just like to trash companies so weight what you find, both the good and bad. If you are selling a product people consume, research, research, research!!! This is VERY important as some products do have ingredients that can hurt people and you need to know what’s truly in those products and the side effects of consuming them. ((example: artificial sweeteners such as Splenda and sucralose are now showing long term effect and are in MANY consumable diet products…but don’t take my word for it, jut google it and research yourself))
Know your market and if the product you are selling can reach your friends and family. If you have a lot of friends interested in health and fitness, then joining a company like that will allow you to have a product they would be interested in. If you are interested in makeup, but most your friends prefer fitness, keep that in mind as you may have to work harder to make sales. Also look at the price of products. Is it something many people can afford? And is it something they will use often? Jewelry/bakeware/clothes are great, but many people don’t buy those items every single month which means you have to go out searching for new clients.
Another great point when starting a business is to find a supportive and knowledgeable business partner! In most of these companies, you can join someone’s team which means they are there to answer your questions, train you, and help you to be successful. To me, this is one of the most important things as it makes things easier for you when you have someone cheering you on. Not to mention, having someone to go to with questions on how to be successful, how to time manage, and how to get your business rocking. Starting a new business can be scary, but having someone to help and encourage you can make a world of difference!! Trust me, after years in this business I know this to be true!!!
These are just a few things to consider when starting your own business, but remember you should never be afraid to ask questions! Ask other people who have been in that company, or who have left the company. Find out what they liked/disliked about it. Also keep in mind that to work from home, you need to be your own boss which means you need to push yourself. Sure its tough at first, but when you consider the benefits, its totally worth it! I work when I want, as much as I want, and from where I want. I can work at the park, by the pool, or in my office. I’m the boss so I set my own rules!
Anyone can be successful working from home, you just need to be dedicated, find a product you love, do your research and never let excuses hold you back!
