Monday Musings 8/24

I am not going to lie, the past week has been ROUGH! Will and I started homeschooling which has been a lot tougher than we thought. He has to do 4-6hrs of school each day and since I have a 3 and 1 year old to also keep busy, our days have been hectic! I’m attempting to do his school work when the baby naps as that little goober gets into everything. But that means less breaks for Will as we have to cram it into two or three sessions. The hardest part for him has been phonics. He has math and science down and loves those. But when it comes to letters and their sounds….NOPE! I’m hoping this week will be easier since I know what to expect and also that I need to try and make it a little more fun for him. Currently he hates school and I know its mostly because I’m not too good at making it fun. He is learning the stuff he enjoys quickly, he was showing off his Five Senses and how to use them for his Grandpa today! And which things are on the left, and which are on the right. Smart boy!!!

 

Balancing working at home, watching my kids, and homeschooling has been rough. Its temporary so I know I can manage but I’ve had to drop others things so I don’t go crazy. We also move into our new house in a month which will add to the crazy for a few days haha. But I like crazy! I seriously think I function better when life is crazy. I mean, who likes boring?!?!

My sweet little Adalyn locked all of us out of the house, so Super Mom here broke the screen on a window, broke the lock on the window, got it up, and go Adalyn through to open the door back up. Luckily no one had to go to the bathroom as it kinda took me awhile. Note to self, give a friend a spare key!!!!

Liam learned if he chases after his brother and sister growling, they will run screaming. He thinks it hilarious, and they do too!

 

In homeschooling, Will and I were talking about “Up” and “Down”. I asked him what was on top of his chair. He replied “My tushey”.

 

I asked Will what he saw when he looked down when he is outside. He replied “Pollen, lots of pollen.”

 

Learning about food, I asked Will what gives you energy. He replied “Coffee. That’s why you drink it all day.”

Sharing Pays

“I don’t want to sell a product”

Me either!!! Selling stuff is tough and not many people are big fans of sales people. So that is why I never sell stuff. I have a different job, I SHARE with people my love for a product. That’s right, I get paid to SHARE!476768c59e61b6691dee58482ff33c01

When I go to a new restaurant, I tell all my friends how good it was!! That’s great for the restaurant as I paid for my meal, and just advertised for them with nothing in return for myself.

When I buy new shoes, I tell people how much I love my shoes, where they can get them, and what a great product it is. This is great for the show store as I just paid full price for my shows, plus advertised for them and helped them get more business.

When I have a fabulous experience with an accountant, I recommend them to my friends and family. I paid full price for their service and now Im sending them more business because I thought they did a great job.

This is great for these businesses!!!! But what if I could get paid for sharing my love for these companies. And what if I could get a discount for getting them more business???

That’s what I do!!! I find a product I love, believe in, and will use daily and get paid to share it. I don’t sell. I don’t go door to door. I don’t bug my friends. I don’t beg people to buy.

For example, one product I use and LOVE is Jamberry Nail Wraps. I found them a few years ago and bought them because as a busy Mom, I didn’t have time to go to the nail salon. Plus the price was $15 for FOUR applications. You can’t beat that!!! So I used them, posted a few pictures, and made sales! Once I realized what a fun business it was, I started to expand. Here are a few things I’ve done to be successful in SHARING not SELLING

I began carrying sample packs with me that included directions and my business cards. These are popular as my nails are always done and every place I go, they advertise for me! If someone compliments them, I offer them a sample! No one says NO!

I offer my samples online by asking people to do a 7 Day Challenge. They get a free sample and use it on one nail, while putting polish on the others. They post the picture on social media on Day 1 and Day 7 to show the wraps vs the polish. This shows my product to tons more people and shows it WORKS

 

  • I make my own instruction videos and post those. People relate better when they see someone they know.
  • I do online parties which allows my friends to earn FREE products and for me to reach a wider range of people. I usually book a few parties from each party I host.
  • I pass out catalogs In local businesses
  • I do events
  • I do home parties

I use the product!!! This is the biggest!!! When I go to the park with my kids, when I go to the grocery store, when I go to the doctor….everywhere I go people see my nails. My 3 year old uses them too!!!  We both are walking advertisements for a product we love!! I use them, I share them, and I get paid for doing that!!! Plus I earn free products each month and get paid for sharing them. Its an amazing opportunity, a great and FUN job and you can find pretty much any product out there to get started doing this with! Managing Your Time When Working From Home

I always get asked how I manage to work from home with 3 kids with me all day. The truth is, it takes a lot of flexibility and to do lists!!! I get up before the kids, am up after them, plus answer emails/do work during their nap/quiet times. One way Im able to do this is my having a few different to-do lists. I know that sounds crazy, but its true haha.
I have one list for tasks I need to do each day, one for the monthly goals, and one for random things I wish to accomplish when I have time. For my daily list of things that HAVE to get done that day in related to work, I prioritize them in this order:

2) Paying Clients
3) Potential Clients
4) Business Building
5) Everything else
I break it up this way because the time I spend away from my kids is for the sole purpose of working and helping with their college funds and being debt free. So I always try and do the money making tasks first, and then everything else comes last and sometimes those other items don’t get accomplished that day, but its ok!

I usually have about 3 hours (if Im lucky) broken up throughout the day to do work, so I make sure to always get to my clients first as they pay for me to help them. I do put my close friends first as those relationships are very important to me!!! I don’t open browsers with facebook, pinterest, etc as those are just distractions. I make my list each morning of things that HAVE to be taken care of that day. The list is important as it helps me stay on track and keeps me from forgetting important things. Plus I prioritize it with numbers as what needs to be done first, second, third, etc.

Another thing that helps me is I have certain days each week I work on the same tasks. For example, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday are the days I post blogs. The 5th and 20th of the months are the days I send out newsletters for my clients and page followers. Doing the same tasks each week/month helps me not to forget them. Plus when I plan my week out, I know those are going to be my busy days.

Different things work for each person, but for me, staying organized and having lots of lists is what helps me the most! Its taken time to find a system, and some days I get behind and other days I have evenings to just read and relax! Part of being a work from home mom is learning to go with the flow, just do your best, and remember your goals! Graham Cookies

As a parent, it is always a struggle between finding foods my kids will eat, and my desire to have them eat healthy foods. Lately as I have noticed that effects sugar have on my 4 year old, I’ve been working hard to find healthy foods that I can make. And that he will still enjoy haha. One recipe I recently found that everyone loved, is home made graham crackers! These are very easy to do and delicious!

INGREDIENTS:graham cookies

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour or flour of choice
  • 1½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup butter, cold
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

 

DIRECTIONS:

 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a blender combine the ingredients.
  3. Next put in the chilled butter.
  4. Scoop the mixture onto a piece of wax paper, with another sheet onto and roll out with a rolling pin or cup
  5. Roll dough out and use cookie cutters to make shapes or a cup just for circles.
  6. Place cookies on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

 

To Freeze, simply cut the cookies into shapes and then place them onto a baking sheet and place in the freezer for 30 minutes. Then you can place them in a plastic bag and you can freeze them for up to 3 months. When you are ready to bake them, just cook them with an additional 1-2 minutes of bake time added on and keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.

Save $400 Off Your Grocery Bills

saving moneyWhen extra money is needed, my first suggestion is to always look at your budget and see where you can make cuts. My family was living paycheck to paycheck and we had a strong desire to pay off all our debt, but with no extra money that was hard to do. A detailed look into my budget showed me my family of 5 was spending over $1000 a month on food. Eating out, snacks, extras, desserts….all those goodies were adding up, and adding up very fast. So I decided to make some cuts. Ok, BIG cuts to be honest, and get our grocery bill down to $400-$500 a month.

 

Is it doable?? YES! I have been sticking to this new plan for over 8 months now and have saved tons of money, and in fact I wrote the whole plan out to help others do the same!! ((you can read more about that at the end plus how to get it for 50% off!)) The hardest part for me is I am a healthy eater, so I needed foods that were cheap, but also healthy for my family. That took some researching, trial and error, and finding bargains. But it worked and we are now able to put at least $400 a month into our savings!

Here are a few of my top tips for eating on a budget, and scroll down to the bottom for a list of cheap, easy recipes!

 

TIPS:

*Plan out your meals for the week. This includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks! If you know what you are going to eat, you will be less likely to spend money eating out

*Make your own snacks. I make all my kids snacks except pretzels. I do homemade cheese crackers, graham crackers, yogurt, muffins, bread….pretty much everything can be made from home for cheaper and a LOT healthier

*PLAN PLAN PLAN: I promise this is the number one tip for staying on track

*Make two nights a week a “veggie night”. Meat is pricey and you can get just as much protein from veggies, but for cheaper.

*Make a grocery list and stick with it! If its not on the list, and you don’t need it, then don’t buy it!

*Go with frozen or canned fruits and veggies. Cheaper!!

*Buy from stores like Aldis, Save A Lot, Costco, or Sams. Make sure to compare prices though as items aren’t always cheaper.

*Buy discount items in bulk and freeze! When I see meat or cheese on sale, I buy a lot and stick it in the freezer.

*PLAN! Keep snacks in your bag so you aren’t tempted to go through a drive thru

*Coupon! But make sure you have your meals planned out before looking for coupons. Otherwise you end up spending more by buying things you didn’t need that were on sale.
